    Cookie Policy

    What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites put on your device (phone, laptop, tablet) to remember things about your visit. Some are essential to make the site work; others help us understand how people use the site.

    Our approach

We use as few cookies as possible and we don't use any that follow you around the internet. No advertising cookies, no retargeting, no social media tracking pixels.

    Cookies we use

    Essential cookies (always on)

These are needed to make the site work properly. You can't switch them off without breaking things.

Cookie What it does How long it lasts
Session cookie Keeps you logged in if you have a Document Hub account Until you close your browser or log out
Security cookie (CSRF) Protects forms from being abused Session
Cookie consent Remembers your cookie preferences so we don't ask you every page 12 months

We use Kiln Analytics, our own cookieless first-party software. No cookies, no IP stored, no personal data and no third-party trackers. It counts visits, not people, and it does nothing at all if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

    What Kiln Analytics is

    • Our own software. The numbers are stored in our own database. Nothing is sent to a third party.
    • Cookieless. It sets no cookies and saves nothing on your device. There is no localStorage and no fingerprint.
    • Aggregate only. It records totals: which pages were viewed, what was downloaded, which tools were used. It cannot build a profile of you.
    • Respectful by default. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, it switches off and records nothing.
    • A replacement for Google Analytics and similar trackers, so pages load faster and your data stays with us.

What Kiln Analytics is not, and does not do

    • No cookies, so no cookie-consent banner.
    • No third-party trackers. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no ad networks.
    • No IP address stored. (Every web request shows an IP to whatever serves the page; we never record or keep it.)
    • No visitor ID, no device ID and no fingerprinting. It cannot follow you across pages or visits.
    • No selling, sharing or sending your data anywhere. There is nothing personal to sell.
    • It never sees or stores anything you type: not form contents, not names, not email addresses.

    Exactly what it records

The page path; the referring site's host only (for example chatgpt.com), never the full link or your search terms; whether a file was downloaded or a tool was used; and the date and time. Nothing else.

Because it stores nothing on your device and holds no personal data, on the same basis as Plausible and Fathom, intended to meet UK PECR, GDPR and POPIA.

    Cookies we do NOT use

To be clear, SiteKiln does not use:

    • Advertising or retargeting cookies
    • Facebook Pixel or Meta tracking
    • Google Ads remarketing
    • Google Analytics or any tool that sends your data to a third-party ad platform
    • Any programmatic ad network cookies
    • Social media "like" or "share" button tracking cookies
    • Any cookie that builds a profile of you for advertising purposes

How ads work on SiteKiln (no cookies involved)

Any ads you see on this site are not targeted from your browsing history. They are specific to our industry and relevant to wherever you are on the page.

So if you're reading about insurance, you might see an ad from an insurer. If you're reading about training, you might see a training provider. Not only can you read about insurance - you can head straight over to an insurer. It's as simple as that. Relevant and useful ads, wherever you are.

No cookies are used to serve these ads. They're placed based on the page topic, not on your personal data or browsing behaviour.

    Browser storage (localStorage)

Some of our tools — including the Monthly Profit Tracker, Quarterly Business MOT and Saved Guides — use your browser's localStorage to save your entries between visits. This is not a cookie — it's a separate browser feature. The data stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser cache or site data will remove it. See our Privacy Policy for more detail.

    Managing your cookies

The only cookies SiteKiln sets are essential cookies (listed above). The cookie banner on your first visit lets you acknowledge this.

You can change your mind at any time by:

    • Clicking the cookie settings link in the site footer, or
    • Clearing cookies in your browser settings.

How to clear cookies in your browser

    • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Browsing Data
    • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data
    • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
    • Edge: Settings > Privacy, Search and Services > Clear Browsing Data

Clearing cookies may log you out of your Document Hub account.

    Third-party cookies

If we embed any third-party content (e.g. a YouTube video in a guide), that service may set its own cookies. We'll flag this where it happens, but we can't control what those services do - check their own cookie policies.

We do not embed social media feeds, ad networks, or tracking widgets that set third-party cookies.

    Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will change when we do.
