Editorial Constitution
What this site will do — and what it will never do.
Eight commitments that define how SiteKiln operates. They're not aspirational. They're the line.
1. No paid tier. Ever.
Every guide, tool, template and reference card on SiteKiln is free. There is no Pro version, no premium gate, no 'unlock with subscription'. The only paywall on this site is the email gate on builder tools — and that's there to verify you're a real tradesperson, not to charge you.
2. No review gating.
We don't rank, score or rate individual firms, sponsors or tradespeople. We don't run a directory. We don't accept payment to feature one company over another. Sponsors get a logo and a link — they don't get editorial influence.
3. No AI-generated content.
We use AI as a research assistant to surface sources and cross-check facts. We never publish AI-generated text as-is. Every guide is written, reviewed and edited by a human. Where a trade contributor co-authored or reviewed a guide, they're named.
4. No mental-health sponsorship.
The mental health and crisis sections of this site will never carry a sponsor logo, banner or referral link. Lighthouse, Mates in Mind and the Samaritans are listed because they help — not because they paid.
5. No agency resellers.
Sponsorship is sold direct. We don't work with media agencies, lead-gen brokers or programmatic networks. Every sponsor on the site has a name, a contact and an end date.
6. Primary sources only.
Every claim is traceable to legislation, gov.uk guidance, HSE documentation, ACAS publications or HMRC manuals. We cite the Act, the regulation or the official body — not 'a popular construction blog'. If we can't back it up from a primary source, it doesn't go on the site.
7. Named authors, visible review dates, public correction flow.
Every guide shows when it was last reviewed. Trade-specific guides credit the contributor. If you spot an error, email hello@kilnguides.co.uk — verified corrections are made promptly and the review date is updated. We don't quietly edit history.
8. 5% of any future revenue tier to construction charity.
If SiteKiln ever introduces a paid tier (it won't be in v1, see commitment #1), 5% of that revenue is committed to a UK construction sector charity — Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity is the current default. This is a constitutional commitment, not a marketing line.
How guides are researched and reviewed
Every guide starts with primary legislation — the actual Acts of Parliament, statutory instruments and regulations that govern the topic. We cross-reference against gov.uk, ACAS, HSE and HMRC. Where rules differ across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, we create jurisdiction-specific versions and label them clearly.
Trade-specific guides are co-authored or reviewed by named contributors who work in those trades. Their names are listed on our About page.
Rate-based content (NMW, CIS, VAT thresholds) is updated annually each April. Legislation-based guides are reviewed when the underlying law changes.
What SiteKiln is not
SiteKiln is not legal advice. It is not financial advice. It is not a substitute for professional consultation. We explain, in plain English, what the law says, what your options are and who to contact next. If your situation is complex, urgent or involves significant money — get proper advice. We'll tell you who to call.
Editorially responsible
Scott Jones, Founder, is the editorially responsible person for SiteKiln. SiteKiln is published by Kiln Guides Ltd (registration in progress). For corrections, complaints or editorial questions, contact hello@kilnguides.co.uk.
