Scaffold Inspection Checklist

When to Inspect

Before first use Every 7 days while in use After adverse weather (high winds, heavy rain, frost) After any event that could affect stability

Written report must be completed within 24 hours.

Inspector must be a competent person.

Base & Structure

Standards plumb and on proper base plates? Sole boards adequate for ground conditions? Ledgers level and properly connected? Braces in place per design? Ties at correct spacing and secure? No damaged, bent, or corroded tubes?

Working Platform

Boards full width with no gaps greater than 25mm? Boards secured against displacement? No excessive overhang on boards? Platform clear of unnecessary materials and debris? Loading not exceeded?

Edge Protection

Guardrails at correct height? (950mm minimum) Mid-rails in place? Toeboards in place? (150mm minimum height) No gaps where a person could fall?

Access

Access ladder secured and at correct angle? (75° / 1-in-4) Ladder extends at least 1m above platform? Landing areas clear?

Signage & General

Scaffold tag / inspection notice displayed? Incomplete scaffolds signed "DO NOT USE"? No unauthorised alterations since last inspection?

No tag, no inspection record = do not use the scaffold.
