Write a method statement a main contractor will actually accept.

For subbies doing their first principal-contractor job who've been handed a blank template. Sequence of work, hazards, controls and sign-off grid in one PDF.

A method statement describes how you'll carry out a job safely — the sequence of work, the hazards, the controls, and the emergency procedures. Most main contractors won't let you start without one.

Fill in the 9 steps below, preview your document on screen, then download the PDF. No charge, no signup, no catch.

Disclaimer: This tool helps you create a method statement for your job. It is a starting point — you must review and adapt it to your specific site conditions. SiteKiln does not provide health and safety consultancy. If your job involves complex or high-risk work, get professional advice.

    What the law actually says

    • Under CDM 2015, the principal contractor can refuse you site access without a method statement they consider adequate. 'Generic' usually doesn't pass.
    • A valid method statement covers sequence of work, plant and equipment, PPE, named competent persons, and emergency procedures.
    • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places personal duties on the person in charge of the activity, not just the company. Sloppy paperwork lands on you.
